How to read an ATS Legal Land Description
Alberta locations are described in the Alberta Township System (ATS) as LSD-Section-Township-Range-Meridian. Reading 01-07-105-02 W6 right to left:

Quarter-section descriptions (NW, NE, SW, SE) are also accepted, as are partial descriptions down to just a township - those resolve to the centre of the area.

Is this LLD lookup really free?
Yes. Lookups in both directions are free and unlimited, with no account or signup required. Creating a free account adds the full interactive map experience: search filters, environmental report lookups, and analysis tools.
What LLD formats are accepted?
Full LSDs (01-07-105-02 W6), quarter sections (NW-24-053-01 W5), sections (07-105-02 W6), and townships (105-02 W6). Dashes, spaces, and leading zeros are all optional - the parser is flexible about formatting.
Can I find the LLD for GPS coordinates or my current location?
Yes. Switch to "Coordinates to LLD" mode and enter latitude and longitude, or press "Use my location" to convert your device position to a Legal Land Description - useful in the field when you are standing on a site and need its LLD for a report or a call to a regulator.
Can I get driving directions to an LLD?
Yes. Google Maps does not understand Legal Land Descriptions, so this tool converts the LLD to coordinates first and the "Directions" button opens Google Maps routing to that point - the practical way to navigate to a well site or lease described only by its LLD.
What is a Legal Land Description (LLD)?
An LLD identifies a parcel of land in the Alberta Township System (ATS): LSD-Section-Township-Range-Meridian. For example, 01-07-105-02 W6 is Legal Subdivision 1 of Section 7, Township 105, Range 2, west of the 6th Meridian. A full LSD is a quarter of a quarter section, roughly 400 m by 400 m.
What is the Alberta Township System (ATS)?
The ATS is the grid survey system that covers Alberta: townships about six miles square, each divided into 36 sections, each section into 16 legal subdivisions. An LLD is an address within that grid, so "ATS lookup", "LLD lookup", "LSD lookup", and "land location search" all describe the same conversion this tool performs.
How accurate are the coordinates?
The tool returns the centroid of the parcel computed from the Alberta Township System grid. Partial descriptions (section or township) resolve to the centre of that larger area. Centroids are appropriate for mapping, navigation, and report figures - legal boundary work still requires a survey.
Does this work outside Alberta?
No. The tool covers the Alberta Township System (meridians W4, W5, and W6). Saskatchewan and Manitoba use the same Dominion Land Survey family but are not currently supported.
