Environmental reports, dormant site inventory, contaminated sites, spill records, and landfill locations that track known or potential contamination across Alberta.
View environmental reports on the interactive mapAlberta Energy Regulator / Alberta Environment and Protected Areas
Environmental reports filed with Alberta regulators, including Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Remedial Action Plans, Reclamation Certificates, Records of Site Condition, and other regulatory environmental documents. Two sources feed this layer: the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) OneStop public document system for upstream oil and gas sites, and the Environmental Records Viewer (ERV) from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas for contaminated sites under provincial environmental law. Phaseview extracts location data (Legal Land Descriptions) and metadata (consultant, date, report type) for each report, and links back to the original document on the regulator's own system rather than hosting a copy. The submission count and the date of the most recent sync are shown on the layer info badge.
Phaseview displays environmental reports as clustered map markers that expand on zoom, with click-through to full report details including metadata, consultant information, and a link to the original document on the issuing regulator's system. Reports are the core data layer of the platform and are always visible by default.
Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)
Field surveillance incident records from the Alberta Energy Regulator documenting spills, releases, and other environmental incidents reported by energy industry operators across Alberta. Each record includes incident date, substance released, volume, location coordinates, licensee, and resolution status. Updated monthly from AER spatial data files.
Rendered as color-coded point markers with three visualization modes (by substance, by age, by volume) and filtering by substance type, incident status, date range, and spill volume. Clicking a marker displays full incident details with a copy-all-spills-in-LLD export function.
Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA)
Waste management facility locations across Alberta sourced from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA) approvals data. Includes 222 current provincial landfills with operational status data (Active, Not Operating, Transfer Station), 139 federal/First Nations reserve landfills, and approximately 2,817 historical landfill sites. Facilities are classified by waste type and include approval information.
Displayed as color-coded markers distinguishing operational status (Active, Not Operating, Transfer Station) with toggles for Current provincial, Federal/First Nations, and Historical facilities. The Reconnaissance Tool reports the nearest active Class II landfill with distance and bearing.
